THE VISION: BUILD 4,300 NEW HOMES
Ravenscraig is a place where people can live, work and play – and there is a huge demand for housing on the site. With continued development on the horizon and further amenities set to arrive on the Ravenscraig site, we expect further housing to be a key driver in the continued success of Ravenscraig.
We are also focused on ensuring there is sufficient affordable housing on the site, with a mix of homes for people of all ages and family size.
THE VISION: EXCELLENT ROAD INFRASTRUCTURE AND ACTIVE TRAVEL ROUTES
Ravenscraig is conveniently located within ten minutes drive of the M74 and M8 motorways, making it easily accessible for commuters in both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
The Ravenscraig Infrastructure Access (RIA) project was approved by the Glasgow City Region Cabinet. The £127m project will create new and improved transport infrastructure connecting Ravenscraig north to the M8 and south to Motherwell and the M74. The work is due to commence in 2025/2026 with completion anticipated in 2027/2028.
Additionally, paths for pedestrians and cyclists will also be created on both sides of the new road. You can read more about the plans to develop new and improve existing road and travel routes in Ravenscraig here.
There is also a frequent rail service that travels through nearby Motherwell Train Station, making it easier than ever to get to and from Scotland’s main cities and beyond.
Ravenscraig Limited currently funds the circular bus route, Service 92, from Motherwell Train Station to Ravenscraig. The route and timings can be found here.
THE VISION: Community Hub incorporating a Joint Primary School Campus
North Lanarkshire Council, supported by Ravenscraig Limited, is committed to the delivery of a Community Hub incorporating a joint primary school campus.
Schooling provision within Ravenscraig will develop in anticipation of the additional homes and increasing number of families moving there.
THE VISION: 31,000 sq m of civic space
Ravenscraig aspires to achieve a high level of sustainable placemaking, delivering safe, attractive and walkable neighbourhoods. The Masterplan capitalises on and integrates with the site’s extensive natural assets. Ravenscraig Limited engaged early on with North Lanarkshire Council and Central Scotland Green Network’s team to develop the new public park, The Craig, in the centre of the site.
Ravenscraig worked in partnership with North Lanarkshire Council to create new Active Travel routes for cycling and walking. The routes, which connect Ravenscraig with Craigneuk, improve links to existing facilities within Ravenscraig and expands the local active travel network.
THE VISION: 94,000 sq m of business and industrial space
The consented 2020 Masterplan includes distinctive areas of business and industry as part of the overall mixed use proposition. The proposals include 94,000 sq m of business and industrial space.
THE VISION: New town centre with 48,000 sq m of retail and leisure space
Set to become the vibrant heart of the Ravenscraig community, the new town centre offers 48,000 square metres of retail and leisure space.
Ravenscraig is already home to The Raven’s Cliff, a smart and modern family-friendly pub which caters to four-legged family members too. Boasting a menu of crowd pleasing food favourites and a range of cask ales, wines and spirits, The Raven’s Cliff also has rooms to accommodate extended family visitors or a short stopover on a business trip.
As the development progresses, there will be opportunities for a variety of shops, restaurants and cafes. The vision is to create an inclusive environment where local businesses and residents can thrive.
THE VISION: 7 hectares of parkland
Ravenscraig is creating a neighbourhood where wildlife and plant life can flourish within the wider development which is why ample green spaces and active travel routes feature across the site.
Residents can enjoy a scenic circular walking route, perfect for dog walkers and those making use of on-site facilities, ensuring easy access to nature and promoting healthy, active lifestyles.
To the west is a Community Nature Park, nestled within the Ancient Woodland, which offers a rich variety of natural features. This park provides a haven for wildlife and a tranquil escape for the community, promoting well-being and biodiversity.
