To date, approximately 1,000 homes have been built within the confines of Ravenscraig. Reputable housebuilders including Barratt Homes, David Wilson Homes, Taylor Wimpey and Keepmoat have all recognised that Ravenscraig offers everything families need – from local amenities like the Regional Sports Facility to fantastic connectivity and green space like The Craig.

Barratt Homes and Taylor Wimpey have both sold out of new build homes at Ravenscraig due to popularity.
With continued development on the horizon and further amenities set to arrive on the Ravenscraig site, we expect further housing to be a key driver in the continued success of Ravenscraig. We are also focused on ensuring there is sufficient affordable housing on the site, with a mix of homes for people of all ages and family size.

Ravenscraig is strategically located between the M74 and M8 motorways, providing excellent connectivity to Glasgow and Edinburgh. This prime location makes it an ideal hub for businesses and commuters seeking easy access to major transportation routes and key cities.

Plans are already underway for a £10 million employment hub in the heart of Ravenscraig, designed to support up to 10 businesses. The proposed development with Fusion Assets will feature a variety of flexible industrial buildings tailored to the needs of local enterprises. The units will be suitable for classes 4, 5, and 6 use, covering office space, industrial activity, distribution, and storage.

New College Lanarkshire

New College Lanarkshire is one of the largest campuses in Scotland which operates across Lanarkshire and East Dunbartonshire with campuses spanned across Cumbernauld, Motherwell, Coatbridge, Kirkintilloch, Hamilton and Broadwood. The college opened its doors in 2009 and is home to 5,000 students per year.

Seeing the potential in the convenient location of the Ravenscraig site, the decision was made to build a new state-of-the-art campus on the grounds of the former steelworks. The £70m campus provides a learning environment of the highest quality for thousands of students, with the modern building stretching to 200,000 sq ft.

The five-storey main building is home to the majority of teaching and leisure spaces, and features a hair and beauty salon in addition to a training restaurant.

There is also a separate engineering building used by students undertaking courses in construction, joinery, welding, automotive and mechanical engineering – particularly fitting considering the history of the Ravenscraig site.

The campus at Motherwell has a modern Halls of Residence for students which include 44 single en-suite rooms offering a high standard of contemporary student living. For students with accessibility needs, there are two bedrooms and a kitchen which have been designed for wheelchair users on the ground floor.

The Craig

The Craig is a dedicated £3.7 million public park and green space that is available for everyone to enjoy, located next to the Ravenscraig Sports Facility. The first section of the park opened in summer 2021, providing a safe and fun space for recreation and exercise that can be enjoyed by the community and families.

With climbing walls, trampolines, swings, bouncing discs and even a climbing tower, there are plenty of exciting things to do at The Craig. Accessible facilities on site for children and young people with mobility issues ensure that The Craig is an open and safe space for everyone in the community.

Over the next two years, we look forward to working with local schools to offer valued work experience and placements. The café kiosk (Food Lover Café) within The Craig is now open and is operated by two students from New College Lanarkshire which helps support the local economy by providing employment opportunities to young people.

The Craig was formally opened by HRH The Princess Royal on 11th March 2022.
