A 40-bedroom hotel will open in Ravenscraig, Motherwell, next year following a successful planning application by Marston’s Inns and Taverns, the owner of the popular Raven’s Cliff pub.
Work will soon get underway to build the two-story Raven’s Cliff Lodge alongside the pub, which opened in August 2015. The lodge will offer high quality mid-market accommodation to business and leisure travellers.
Rachel Newnes, acquisitions manager for Marston’s Inns and Taverns said: “We have listened to our customers and recognised that the Motherwell area would benefit from additional high-quality yet affordable hotel accommodation. The pub is surrounded by popular sports and leisure facilities, including Fir Pak, Ravenscraig Regional Sports Facility and Strathclyde Park, each attracting thousands of visitors a year. New College Lanarkshire is also on the doorstep and a number of nationally significant business locations, including Eurocentral, are just a few miles away.
“Raven’s Cliff Lodge will be part of our Marston’s Inns brand, offering comfortable and affordable accommodation for everyone. A range of twin, double, family and disability access rooms will be available and will include a hearty delicious breakfast from the Raven’s Cliff pub after the stay.”
Nick Davies, director of Ravenscraig Ltd, the joint venture company responsible for the regeneration of the Ravenscraig site, said: “The expansion of a key business on the Ravenscraig site is fantastic news for the joint venture partners as well as the local economy.
“The Raven’s Cliff pub has quickly established itself as a real hub for local residents, businesspeople and visitors and we expect to see high demand for the rooms.
“Since development work on the Ravenscraig site began at in 2006 more than £200 million has been invested in creating employment, investment, community facilities and homes.
“The success of the Raven’s Cliff pub as well as the popularity of new homes gives us great confidence as we continue to regenerate the site.”
