FAQs

What are you proposing to deliver at Ravenscraig for Meadowhead & TC1-3 remediation project?

We are seeking consent to undertake remediation works only on several key sites at the heart of the consented Ravenscraig masterplan to allow the development to progress in the future.

What is remediation?

Remediation works include the removal of remnants from steel production including deep concrete foundations and other waste materials, preparing the land for future redevelopment.

The remediation works represent a substantial investment into the community of Ravenscraig which will see the extraction, recycling and backfilling of over 600,000 cubic metres of material. This is enough to fill 240 Olympic swimming pools.

Is this remediation process harmful to the environment or those living/working in the surrounding areas?

Work will be designed to ensure construction works and the final platforms are safe. We will also be liaising with SEPA throughout.

The nature of the site’s existing biodiversity will be assessed prior to the Planning
Application and measures to preserve that biodiversity agreed with North Lanarkshire
Council agreed prior to works commencing.

How will the development works be approached sustainably?

To deliver a successful development, sustainability must be considered from the outset of the planning process and should include social, environmental and economic factors. Our design is aligned with the Scottish Government’s climate change and sustainability efforts including road to net zero.

The expandable furnace slag which was a bi-product of the steel making process is being removed from site and recycled.

What are the redevelopment plans for Meadowhead & TC1-3 after remediation?

The consented Masterplan from 2020 includes residential led and mixed use development which will include new homes.

Remediation works are essential before any further development can take place on this site.
