Ravenscraig is set to become home to a brand new public park – delivering much desired green space for people across North Lanarkshire.

The £3.7million park forms a key element of Ravenscraig Ltd’s new masterplan and is set to benefit local residents and those from across the region.

Within the 17-acre park will be multiple play areas, an outdoor gym, a sensory garden, seating areas and disabled changing facilities. There will also be walking and cycling paths.

 Nick Davies, director of Ravenscraig Ltd, said: “Ravenscraig has undergone significant regeneration in recent years and is now a thriving community. With almost 1000 homes on site, there is clear demand for new green space and these plans will deliver a park of the highest quality – a place where the whole family can enjoy the outdoors.

“The park will also be a facility for people living in the surrounding towns, helping to address the Scottish Government’s desire to see improved access to green space. This is just the beginning of the next phase of regeneration at Ravenscraig. Development work will continue over the coming years, with sustainability and inclusive growth at the heart of our plans to make Ravenscraig a great place to live, work and play.”

VHE Construction Ltd has begun to carry out groundworks and remediation on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council. From October, work will then begin on the creation of the park and landscaping and will be carried out by Idverde Ltd.

Funding for the park has come via the Scottish Government’s Vacant and Derelict Land Fund.
